ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the association between fresh fruit consumption and status of glycemic control, among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).@*Methods@#Using the stratified cluster sampling method, a cross-sectional study was conducted among 19 473 diabetic patients who were under the Disease Management Program related to the National Basic Public Health Service in Changshu county, Huai’an and Qinghe districts of Huai’an city from December 2013 to January 2014, under the combination of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) methods, the glycemic control status in T2DM patients was assessed. Multiple logistic regression method was used to explore the relationship between fresh fruit consumption and status of glycemic control among T2DM patients.@*Results@#62.4% of the T2DM patients reported their amount of fruits intake in the past year. Both the levels of FPG and HbA1c decreased in T2DM patients, when the frequency and amount of fresh fruit consumption were increasing. Compared with patients who did not take fresh fruits, the risk of poor glycemic control in patients with fresh fruit consumption of 1-4 times/week and ≥5 times/week decreased 20% (OR=0.80, 95%CI: 0.73-0.87) and 30% (OR=0.70, 95%CI: 0.62-0.80), respectively. Patients with fruit consumption of 50-99 g/day and ≥100 g/day had lower risk of poor glycemic control, with ORs (95%CI) as 0.71 (95%CI: 0.62-0.83) and 0.68 (95%CI: 0.59-0.78), respectively.@*Conclusions@#The association of fresh fruit intake and glycemic control was statistically significant in patients with type 2 diabetes. With the increase of frequencies and amounts of fresh fruit consumption, the levels of FPG and HbA1c showed a decreasing trend. Our findings suggested that fresh fruit intake seemed helpful for glycemic control.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate and compare the fingerprints of different polarity fractions (petroleumether, chloroform, ethyl acetate,n-butanol,water) of fresh Gardeniae Fructus with different fruit shapes, and further understand the content difference and distribution of its chemical composition. Method:Gardeniae Fructus was reflux extracted by water in order to obtain the water extract; water extract 0.1 g and dissolved with 50 mL water, then it was extracted by petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol in turn in order to obtain the different extraction phases and the water phase. Each phase was condensed to extractum. Finally, the samples were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints and the similarity evaluation software was used for data analysis. Result:Fingerprint of chloroform fraction of water extract in gardenia from different habitats can be used to distinguish Gardeniae Fructus from Fujian,Henan and Jiangxi. The differences between the water extract of Gardeniae Fructus from Fujian and those of Henan and Jiangxi were mainly manifested in the petroleum ether fraction, and the fat-soluble components of Gardeniae Fructus were more than those of Henan and Jiangxi. The differences between the water extract of Gardeniae Fructus from Henan and those of Fujian and Jiangxi were mainly manifested in the ethyl acetate fraction, and the content of iridoid glycosides was significantly higher than that in Fujian and Henan. The differences between the water extract of gardenia from Jiangxi and those of Fujian and Henan were mainly manifested in the n-butanol fraction, organic acid peak C1 not detected. The fingerprint of chloroform fraction of water extract in Gardeniae Fructus can be used to distinguish Gardeniae Fructus of six ribs and Gardeniae Fructus of seven ribs from Fujian and Henan, and the contents of all components of Gardeniae Fructus of seven ribs were more than those in Gardeniae Fructus of six ribs. The fingerprint of petroleum ether fraction of water extract in Gardeniae Fructus can be used to distinguish Gardeniae Fructus of six ribs and Gardeniae Fructus of seven ribs from Jiangxi. The Z3 peak of Gardeniae Fructus of six ribs from Henan was obviously higher than that of Gardeniae Fructus of seven ribs. The contents of all components on chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions of water extract in Gardeniae Fructus of seven ribs were significantly higher than those of Gardeniae Fructus of six ribs. Conclusion:There are significant differences on chemical constituents and content among Gardeniae Fructus from Fujian,Henan and Jiangxi. The main difference of fingerprint between Gardeniae Fructus of six ribs and Gardeniae Fructus of seven ribs is the peak height.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the long-term risk of esophageal cancer from fresh fruit consumption. Methods:In 1985, a total of 29,479 participants aged between 40 and 69 years old were recruited for this study. Demographic characteristics, lifestyle, history of diseases, and food intake frequency were surveyed at the baseline and were then followed up. Through December 31, 2015, a median of 31.79 years of observation was obtained. The primary endpoint was death from esophageal cancer. The hazard ratio and 95%confi-dence intervals for fresh fruit consumption were calculated using a Cox proportional hazard model. Results:Overall, 31.09%of partici-pants reported consuming fresh fruit more than once every week. Compared with participants who never or rarely consumed fresh fruit, those who consumed fresh fruit more than once a week had a lower long-term risk of esophageal cancer. Death rate decreased to 7%among those who ate fresh fruit more than once a week, especially among males (11%) and those with positive smoking history (13%). Conclusion:Fresh fruit consumption is associated with a lower risk of death from esophageal cancer, but the etiological mecha-nism needs to be investigated further.

ABSTRACT

The dissipation of spirodiclofen in fresh fruit and dry fruit of wolfberry was detected in this study to provide a reference for its safe application.According to Pesticide Residue Test Criteria of China, the open-field experiment was conducted in Zhongning courty of Ningxia province, and the dissipation of spirodiclofen was studied by acetonitrile extraction and HPLC-MS/MS detection. The results showed that the half-lives of spirodiclofen in fresh wolfberry fruit and dry wolfberry fruit were 6.9-11.2 days and 8.5-10.4 days, respectively. Spirodiclofen belongs to the easily degradable pesticide type. According to the maximum residue limits (0.5 mg•kg⁻¹) of spirodiclofen of EU for wolfberry, after recommended dosage being sprayed for once, fresh wolfberry fruit was safe to eat after 5 days, and dry wolfberry fruit was safe to eat after 21 days.

ABSTRACT

The present research aimed to evaluate the productive characteristics of different genotypes of peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.), submitted to pruning at different times in Pelotas / RS. The experiment was conducted in an experimental area that belongs to Embrapa Temperate Climate (CPACT) during 2009 and 2010, the treatments consisted of combinations of three pruning times [winter pruning (PI), winter pruning plus summer pruning (PIV) and summer pruning (PV)] and three genotypes [(Cascata 805, Cascata 834 (BRS Kampai) and Cascata 952 (BRS Rubimel)], resulting in nine different treatments. There was no interaction between factors for the variables fruit firmness, pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS / TA ratio and color. Higher firmness was observed for BRS Kampai fruit and for summer pruning alone. The fruit of genotype BRS Kampai had the highest SS and TA among those studied, the plants of BRS Kampai and BRS Rubimel had fruit with more intense epidermal red coloration, regardless the pruning time. It was found that the pruning only in summer induced the production of small fruits. Genotypes BRS Kampai and BRS Rubimel productivity showed similar system independent pruning applied. Overall, physicochemical characteristics of the fruit do not change with variations in pruning time, although physical characteristics and those related to production suffer direct influence of pruning time.
